KARL EMERSON GLASGOW III (Oct. 21, 2021) Karl Emerson Glasgow III died peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at his home in Parker, Colorado. He was born on January 13, 1937, in Pittsburgh, the son of Karl Emerson Glasgow II and Evelyn Kathryn Keller. After graduating from Swissvale High School, Karl enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Germany. He returned to Pennsylvania after his discharge from the Air Force and earned a bachelor’s degree at Geneva College. Karl met the love of his life, Lillian Isabel Phillips of Pittsburgh. They soon married, on September 7, 1958. Karl taught high school mathematics for a time, then returned to the Air Force, entering Officer Training School. His years in the Air Force included duty at Vandenberg Air Force Base, where he was involved in test launches of Atlas ICBMs. While serving in California, he earned a master’s degree from Stanford University. He was also stationed in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, during the Vietnam War, and at the Pentagon. For many years, Karl managed data processing operations at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, establishing roots in Colorado. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and his military decorations included the Bronze Star Medal. Karl had an interest in real estate and in architecture. In addition to owning and managing rental properties, Karl designed a home for his family in Parker, Colorado. That home was lost to an arsonist’s fire as construction was completed. Undeterred, he had another built, which they occupied for 35 years. Karl and Lily enjoyed travelling regularly. They also had an annual tradition to handcraft wooden cradles with blankets and dolls for children in need at Christmastime. Over the past 45 years, these have reached thousands of kids. Karl is survived by his wife Lillian of Parker, daughters Karin Van Vleet (Jim) and Kymberly Quinn (Pat), son Karl IV (Holly), grandchildren Cameron Quinn, Shannon Allain (Michael), Alyssa Brever (Stephen), Travis Whitlock (Cara), Katrina Glasgow and Karl Glasgow V, great granddaughter Teagan Brever, and brothers Page, Fred and Keith.
